These same descriptions may not apply to other areas of the river outside of the DSR, where elbow to elbow is frequently the norm. NOTE: Angling success or activity is reported to these standards: "Quiet" = no action, no fish being caught or seen; "Slow" = guests hooking fish, but few and far between; "Moderate" = guests are hooking fish, but could be better"; "Good" = guests are hooking fish steadily; "Excellent" = guests can't keep the fish off the line.

This information will be reinforced or updated by both Guest Services and River Patrol during the morning phased releases.
Any further updates during the day will be published to the on-duty Guest Services Staff to alert guest checking-in throughout the day. Rain
The flow from the dam was bumped up to 200 CFS, from 185 CFS, where it will remain at least through midnight on 6 Sep '25. The CFS at the Pineville gauge is currently 220.
We have generally overcast skies, with short lived occasional clearing and sunshine, air temperature is 76 degrees, very light breezes, dry conditions. Water temperature bumped up to 70 degrees.

the estuary section was closed to fishing today, due to ongoing river restoration construction, however there were reports of small pods of up to 10 fish actively moving upriver throughout the afternoon;
the lower section from #19 (No Name) downriver was closed to fishing today, due to ongoing river restoration construction, but there were reports of a substantial number of fish in that area of the lower section, actively pushing upriver. Reports for the rest of that section was that there was low guest density, slow fishing activity, with a mix of Chinook (King) and Coho Salmon actively moving upriver, some moving back downriver (typically Coho), and another population holding in pools;
the middle section reported moderate to low guest density as you traveled upriver in that section, moderate to slow fishing activity traveling upriver in that section, with Chinook (King) Salmon and a sprinkling of Coho holding in pools;
the upper section reported very low to low guest density, slow to quiet angling activity, with Kings and Cohos holding in that area;
the top section reported fish holding in that area, with no angling activity.
As guests started coming off the river near dusk, from various parts of the run, I was being told "there are crazy amounts of fish moving", "the last three hours was wave after wave of Cohos", and similar remarks indicating that those fish stacking up in the lower area today received a trigger to move.
The forecast for tonight is: "Cloudy. Slight chance of a rain shower. Low 57F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph." The forecast for tomorrow is: "Cloudy with occasional rain...mainly in the morning. Much cooler. High 62F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch."

PM Fishing Report 9/3/2025-We enjoyed another partially cloudy day with temperatures in the 70s and light winds this afternoon. The estuary and lower section is still closed to river restoration, so I don’t have reports on those areas. The Upper section had some action as well, again with Kings and Cohos, ( a pair of browns included), along with moderate guest volume. We didn’t have any reports from our top section of the DSR this afternoon. Tomorrow’s weather does have some rain in the forecast; the morning’s temperatures will be in the low 60s at dawn, climbing to the mid-70s by mid afternoon with winds from the S / SE 10-15mph. Scattered thunderstorms are forecasted for the area from around 2pm – 6pm, then tapering off to showers. Total precipitation expected between ½” – ¾”. As we are building up to the peak of the salmon season, many of our guests are reaching out to us to inquire into how they may obtain Daily Access Fishing passes. I should mention that our passes are placed online during early to mid-January of each year, for the forthcoming season later in the Fall; please mark your calendar so that you increase your opportunities to obtain passes for the desired dates of your trip. If, however, you are unable to obtain any, or all desired, daily access fishing passes for your trip by simply buying them online at this time, there are a few options which may assist you in obtaining passes for your trip: • consider alternate date(s). If your schedule is relatively flexible, consider either earlier or later date(s), as the last week of September and the first week of October are the highest demand weeks and typically sell-out rapidly. Salmon, Steelhead, and Brown Trout are plentiful in our river system from mid-September through mid-November, to a lesser degree on both sides of this period; • monitor the website. At this time passes may not be available online, but commonly we will have outright cancellations, or changes in dates and desired quantities, for various reasons. Cancellations are automatically placed back into our inventory on our website. We encourage guests seeking passes, for currently sold-out dates, to monitor the pass availability as much as possible. DSR does not maintain any waiting lists for daily passes; • hire a DSR approved guide. DSR approved guides are guaranteed access for their clients, only for the day(s) they are actively guiding the clients. DSR’s guides are independent contractors and require guests to initiate inquiries about their services and availability on their own. A list of approved DSR Guides may be found by searching our website under "Fishing"; • consider renting a lodge. If available, our rates are very competitive with those in the local area. As lodge guests you are guaranteed to be able to purchase daily access fishing passes, from your date of check-in through your date of check-out, up to the total number of guests in the lodge. You may also access the water earlier than most other categories of fishing access passes and the general public; • purchase a walk-up pass. DSR has collected data over the years past, which allows us to calculate averages and estimate guest attendance on any day. Should those estimates be off, and space is available, DSR will release remaining passes for sale via the procedures published at www.douglastonsalmonrun.com/walkup beginning at 7:00 AM. You may also directly solicit the lineup of daily access pass holders, prior to their beginning the check-in process, for any available passes due to no-shows within their party; any financial transactions conducted are strictly between the two parties and are usually cash only. Please note that pass availability varies for any given day and is not guaranteed. • purchase an afternoon pass. As anglers come off the water for the day, we check-out each angler. This in turn creates openings for additional guests to get on the water. At 12:45 AM each day, available Afternoon Passes will be published for sale. Guests who have purchased afternoon passes may redeem them at our Welcome Center, beginning at 1:00 PM. I hope the information above assists you. It’s certainly difficult to defer guests to these alternative methods of obtaining access, but DSR must stay true to its angler limit promise. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to you joining us on the water soon.

River Patrol Report 9/2/25-we had mostly sunny skies, (once again), with some light cloud clover that moved in after the noon hour with temperatures in the mid-70s along with light W / NW winds. The flow remained at 185 cfs from the dam today. We had a few guests fishing the lower section with a handful of Kings and Cohos brought to hand. Most of the fish in that area were holding, although scattered groups of 1-3 Salmon were observed moving upstream. The middle section of the river proved to be the most heavily fished with a good number of Kings and Cohos, (along with a few Browns in the 6-8 lb. range) hooked and or released. The upper section of the river had a solid turn-out with guests as well as the number of Kings and Cohos that our guests connected with. (A few Browns under 5lbs were also in the mix.) We didn’t have guests fishing the upper section of our river this afternoon. Tomorrow we expect temperatures in the mid-50s at dawn pushing up to the low 80s, with considerable sunshine, little chance of any precipitation, and winds from the S / SW at 5-8mph. The river will stay at 185 cfs from the dam through at least midnight tomorrow evening; the gauge at Pineville is at 209 cfs. The river restoration will continue tomorrow; fishing from ‘No Name Hole’ / #19 on our DSR Map downstream is closed until the restoration is complete. We expect that project to be completed NLT September 5th.
