December 31, 2025

DSR Fishing Report for 31 December 2025 NOTE:  due to the snow and cold temperatures forecasted for the next several days DSR’s hours of operation will be adjusted as follows: -1 January 2026: 9AM-3PM -2 January 2026: 9AM-5:15PM -3 January 2026: No Change 6:45AM-5:15PM -4 January 2026: 9AM-5:15PM -5 January 2026: 9AM-5:15PM   Today's forecast: Periods of snow. High 26F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches. The current dam release is 1,000 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 1/3/26 at 8 AM.  The Pineville gauge is currently 1410 CFS as of 3:15pm. The water temperature was not available this morning. A few brave guests ventured down to the run today. Earlier in morning snowfall created slush that made angling difficult; however, the snowfall ceased late morning, and the slush dissipated this afternoon. Angling remained challenging throughout the day with our guests working hard for a few steelhead. Successful Baits & Techniques: Blue egg sacks under floats accounted for steelhead brought to hand. Mottled natural color beads drifted under indicators also accounted for a few bent rods. An angler was also successful getting a tug swinging traditional style steelhead flies in a black/blue pattern. The forecast for tonight is:  Snow this evening will transition to snow showers late. Low near 10F. SSW winds shifting to NW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected. Higher wind gusts possible. The forecast for tomorrow is:  Mostly cloudy with snow flurries and snow showers, especially in the afternoon. High near 15F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches. NOTE:  due to the potential for lake effect snow, and other forms of inclement weather conditions during the winter season, please monitor the weather for Pulaski, NY (zip code 13142) before getting on the road. Lake effect snow typically occurs in relatively narrow bands, and that immediately adjacent areas may be clear of snow, therefore look at the forecast and radar for the general area when planning your travel. December 30, 2025

30 Dec 2025 full-day DSR fishing report follows. NOTE: due to forecasted heavy snow tomorrow, our operating hours for 31 December 2025 have been modified to opening at 9 AM and closing at 3 PM. Today's forecast: "Occasional snow showers. Quite windy. High 21F. Winds WNW at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.". The current dam release is 500 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 12/30/25 at 6 PM. At 6 PM 12/3025 the flow will rise to 1000 CFS, where it will remain until 8 AM 01/03/26. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 868 at our opening time, and dropped to 843 over the course of the day. The water temperature was not available this morning. There was slush in the water this morning. It should be noted that the increase in CFS will likely flush out the slush quicker each day. A pair of guests went down to the run early this morning, but came up after only an half-hour; they declared that the amount of slush in the water made the run unfishable. Successful Baits & Techniques: not applicable today. The forecast for tonight is: "Cloudy and windy early. Snow showers developing overnight. Low near 20F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 40%. Snowfall around one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.". The forecast for tomorrow is: "Periods of snow. High 24F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 5 to 8 inches of snow expected.". NOTE: due to the potential for lake effect snow, and other forms of inclement weather conditions during the winter season, please monitor the weather site forecasts (use national, area-wide, and local sites) for Pulaski, NY (zip code 13142) before getting on the road; remember that lake effect snow typically occurs in relatively narrow bands, and that immediately adjacent areas may be clear of snow, therefore look at the forecast for the general area as well when planning your travel. December 29, 2025

29 Dec 2025 full-day DSR fishing report follows. Today's forecast: "A few showers this morning will change to snow showers for the afternoon hours as winds become gusty. Morning high of 40F with temps falling to near 30. Winds SW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of precip 80%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.". The current dam release is 500 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 12/30/25 at 11:59 PM. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 846 at our opening time, and rose to 953 over the course of the day. The water temperature was 35 degrees early this morning, with the water reported as "murky" from recent snowmelt and rains, with visibility only 18" downriver of runoff points, to 3' generally in the remainder of the run. Our guests spread out to all sections of the run today, the largest percentage to the middle section, followed by the lower section, with only a few fishing the upper section. All things considered, all sections fished relatively equally well today. Guests remarked that the wind was "brutal" on the run, even prompting one pair of guests to only brave them for an half-hour before coming back off. The remainder of the guests I spoke to had varied success; about a quarter did not even receive any (discernable) tugs; another quarter hooked up but had difficulty bringing any to hand; and the remaining half scored at most one brought to hand. It was a tough day, all around ... Steelhead were the primary species mentioned today, ranging from the 6 # to 10 # category, some larger in the mix; nearly all were bright chrome, but some showed colored gill plates and lateral color flashes. Successful Baits & Techniques: blue egg sacks, drifted under a bobber, accounted for a fair percentage of fish today, followed by "natural", pink, and white egg sacks. Other baits that worked well today were assorted flies (black Wooly Bugger specifically), 10 or 12 mm chartreuse, or yellow beads rigged under a bobber; and a 3/4 ounce Little Cleo in silver. The forecast for tonight is: "Occasional snow showers. Quite windy. Low around 15F. Winds W at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snowfall around one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 50 mph.". The forecast for tomorrow is: "Cloudy with gusty winds. High 21F. Winds WNW at 25 to 35 mph. Winds could occasionally gust over 50 mph.". December 21, 2025

21 Dec 2025 full-day DSR fishing report follows.
Today's forecast: "Windy with occasional snow showers. Temps nearly steady around 30. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.".
The current dam release is 350 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 12/22/25 at 11:59 PM. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 659 at our opening time, and dropped to 630 over the course of the day. A water temperature was not available today.
Our guests spread out to all sections of the run today, a larger percentage to the middle section than any other, with only a few fishing the upper or lower sections. All sections fished relatively equally well today, with a few guests stating that "fish were everywhere you expected them to be!", "Fantastic!", "Despite the terrible winds, it was unbelievable (fishing)!". Excepting one solitary guest, almost all of the pairs and trios of guests I spoke to indicated that, between them, they were able to hookup just over double-digits today, with one larger group recounting numbers beyond imagination. Brought to hand numbers were also relatively high, ranging from one to nine, in one case double-digits, amongst these groups of guests. Steelhead were the primary species mentioned today, ranging from the 6 # to 10 # category, some larger in the mix; nearly all were bright chrome, but some showed colored gill plates and lateral color flashes; one solitary, small, resident Brown Trout made a showing.
Successful Baits & Techniques: blue egg sacks, drifted under a bobber, accounted for the largest percentage of fish today, followed distantly by pink, then natural colored egg sacks. Other baits that worked well today were 10 or 12 mm chartreuse, or yellow "cats' eye", beads rigged under a bobber; or flies such as a "squirmy worm", nymphs, and stoneflies.
Featured today are Tom, with a very nice colored-up Steelhead; his buddy, Garrett, our DSR General Manager, also scored an impressive chrome Steelhead today; and the "four amigos" (orange hood: Mitch, bottom left: Mo, top left: Craig, middle: Niko) were all smiles with four of the many Steelhead they brought to hand today.
Congratulations guys!
The forecast for tonight is: "Cloudy with snow showers mainly during the morning. High 34F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 50%.".
The forecast for tomorrow is: "Variably cloudy with snow showers. Low around 30F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 60%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.".
NOTE: due to the potential for lake effect snow, and other forms of inclement weather conditions during the winter season, please monitor the weather site for Pulaski, NY (zip code 13142) forecasts before getting on the road; remember that lake effect snow typically occurs in relatively narrow bands, and that immediately adjacent areas may be clear of snow, therefore look at the forecast for the general area as well when planning your travel.

December 14, 2025

14 Dec 2025 full day fishing report follows: Todays Forecast:  Mostly cloudy this morning. A few snow showers developing during the afternoon. High 21F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 30%. The current dam release is 350 cfs where it’s projected to remain until 15 Dec. ’25 @11:59pm.  The Pineville gauge is at 482 cfs and holding steady. We had a handful of guests fish the run today and although we did have some slush ice along with built up bank ice, one angler did well in the middle section of the river pinning with a float. using squirmy worms, getting into double digits.  All the fish were steelhead, mostly silver with a couple colored up with that wintertime pink hue on their gill plate(s). The forecast for tonight is  Snow likely. High 28F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 100%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected. Note:  due to potential lake effect snow and other forms of inclement weather conditions during the winter season, please monitor the weather site for Pulaski, NY (zip code 13142) forecasts before getting on the road; remember lake effect snow typically occurs in relatively narrow bands, and that immediately adjacent areas may be clear of snow, therefore loo at the forecast for the general area as well when planning your travel. December 13, 2025

NOTE: 14 December 2025 (Sunday) our hours of operation will be 10:00 AM - 5:15 PM. The later opening is due to the anticipated cold temperatures and likelihood that slush ice will make fishing tough early-on, until it has had a chance to flush out. 13 Dec 2025 full-day DSR fishing report follows. Today's forecast: "Light snow this morning will give way to snow showers this afternoon. High 32F. Winds SSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 60%. Snow accumulations less than one inch. Heavier amounts in persistent snowbands". The current dam release is 350 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 12/13/25 at 11:59 PM. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 482 over the course of the day. A water temperature was not available today. There was both slush and bits of detached anchor ice reported from the Spring Hole and downriver this morning; however, a few guests were still able to fish the lower sections. Our guests spread out to all sections of the run today, a larger percentage to the middle section than any other, with only a few fishing the lowest section due to slush and ice build-up (however, a late departing guest did state that slush had pretty much cleared out by late afternoon).  All sections fished relatively equally well today, with perhaps a weighting in favor of the middle section when the angler to fish ratio is considered. Excepting some beginning Steelheaders, new to the sport and this river, all of the guests I spoke to indicated they were able to at least hookup today, with this population able to bring one to two fish to hand for the most part. A fair percentage of our guests fell into the three to five fish category; a pair of skillful guests achieved 8 / 10 and 7 / 8. A large group of guests, although only somewhat successful, made it a point to state "Fish are definitely there! It was good fishing today". Steelhead were the predominate species, ranging from the 6 # to 10 # category, some larger in the mix; nearly all were bright chrome, but some showed colored gill plates and lateral color flashes. Atypically, for most of our guests, based on their reporting there was seemingly a steady bite all day. Successful Baits & Techniques: hands-down, blue egg sacks, drifted under a bobber, accounted for the vast majority of the fish today. A hint, without giving away any confidences: don't hesitate to tie up some eggs, in unusual colors. That experimentation paid off today (again) for a pair of anglers who were able to stay in one place all day and each score double-digit hookups; it's something they hadn't seen! Pink eggs earned second best choice today. 10 or 12 mm chartreuse or orange colored beads rigged under a bobber worked well today, as well. Featured today is Derrick, with his very first Steelhead. His buddy, Frank, also scored his first Steelhead today (unfortunately, no picture was available). Between them, their hookup numbers were on par with more experienced anglers, congratulations guys! No photo description available. The forecast for tonight is: "Periods of snow. Low 18F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected. Heavier amounts in persistent snowbands.". The forecast for tomorrow is: "Snow showers early. Peeks of sunshine later. High near 20F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 60%. Snowfall around one inch.". December 7, 2025

7 Dec 2025 full-day DSR fishing report.
Today's forecast: "Periods of snow. High 32F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.".
The current dam release is 750 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 12/07/25 at 11:59 PM. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 971 as of 6:15 AM and bumped up to 980 over the course of the day. A water temperature was not available today. There was no slush reported within the water this morning.
Our guests spread out to all sections of the run today, a large percentage to the middle section, but an almost equal percentage chose the lowest section as well. All sections fished relatively equally well today, with perhaps a slight weighting in favor of the lower section when the angler to fish ratio is considered. Almost all of the guests I spoke to indicated they were able to at least hookup today, with about half of this population able to bring one to two fish to hand, and the other half fell into either the three to four fish category; a couple of skillful guests achieved even higher numbers, a handful flirting with double-digits "Everyone's catching fish!". Steelhead were the predominate species again, ranging from the 6 # to 11 # category; nearly all were bright chrome, but some showed colored gill plates and lateral color flashes. There were four Brown Trout in the 13" - 16” category brought to hand as well. Again, It was reported that the early morning fished the very best, until about 9 AM, then typically there was a lull until the early afternoon, then picking up through dusk. The pattern seems to be good morning activity middle to top, followed by a lull during which the bottom comes alive, or vice versa; perhaps due to fish actively moving into the river system and continuing upriver. Successful Baits & Techniques: hands-down, blue egg sacks, drifted under a bobber, accounted for the vast majority of the fish today. A hint, without giving away any confidences: don't hesitate to tie up some eggs, in unusual colors; that paid off today, as it's something they hadn't seen! However, one pair of guests were very successful fishing 10 or 12 mm chartreuse beads rigged under a bobber. A couple of guests stuck with pink egg sacks and beads, which paid off very handsomely for them (I should mention that other guests tried pink today, without success). The other notable exception was a single guest, swinging flies exclusively, with these results (brought to hand): black stonefly (1), pink worm (1), plain peach egg pattern (3).
Featured today (see below) is Gabe, with a nice Steelhead, brought to hand swinging a fly

The forecast for tonight is: "Cloudy skies this evening will become partly cloudy after midnight. A few flurries or snow showers possible. Low 8F. Winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph.".
The forecast for tomorrow is: "Sunny, along with a few afternoon clouds. High 19F. Winds light and variable.".

December 6, 2025

6 Dec 2025 full-day DSR fishing report.
Today's forecast: "Variable clouds with snow showers or flurries. High 34F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 60%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.".
The current dam release is 750 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 12/06/25 at 11:59 PM. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 962 as of 6:15 AM and bumped up to 971 over the course of the day. A water temperature was not available today. Unlike the past few mornings, there was no slush reported this morning (overnight low had been 12 F).
Our guests spread out to all sections of the run today, with a fair percentage concentrated mostly within the middle section, a lesser percentage at the upper section, and the fewest at the lowest section. All sections fished relatively equally well today, when factoring-in guest angling experience and techniques. Two-thirds of the guests I spoke to indicated they were able to at least hookup today (two guests achieved low double-digits here, using blue egg sacks), with about half of this population able to bring one to two fish to hand, and a lesser included group fell into either the four to five fish category. Steelhead were the predominate species, with a fair percentage of these in the 6 - 8 # category, and a few of the remainder were larger in size, perhaps 10-12#; nearly all were bright chrome. There were a trio of Brown Trout in the 16" - 18” category, and a pair of "fresh", Chinook (King) Salmon, brought to hand as well. It was reported that the early morning fished the very best, until about 9 AM, then typically there was a lull until the early afternoon, then picking up through dusk.
Successful Baits & Techniques - each of these produced well, in this order: hands-down blue egg sacks drifted under a bobber, as well as bounced on the bottom, seemed to account for the majority of the fish today, followed by pink egg sacks. Close behind these were beads in the 10mm to 14mm size drifted under a bobber (chartreuse, followed by pink, then a red tinted bead, were most productive today); then swinging flies imitating a pink worm, some with "spider legs", and a blue "crystal meth" (lumpy) fly accounted for a few hookups.
Featured today (see below) is David, with a nice Steelhead, who was guided by DSR Guide Mike Ford of Reel Addicted Charters & Guide Services
No photo description available.
The forecast for tonight is: "Cloudy with snow showers mainly during the evening. Low 22F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 40%.".
The forecast for tomorrow is: "Snow showers early, with a steadier snow developing late in the day. High 31F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.".
