We had about a dozen anglers fish the run today. Some fished early, left and returned late. Others fished throughout the morning. Only a couple of fish were spotted today and that was early morning. The water level will be bumped up to 350 cfs from the dam beginning at 9:00 PM tonight on its way to 750 cfs over the weekend. That and cooler temperatures overnight and into tomorrow gives us reason to be optimistic.

We had two anglers fish the run today. One did not see salmon nor movement. The other was able to bring two salmon to hand. Right place. Right time. Very early seems to be "the right time." Rain came in this afternoon and we have had a good soaking for the past several hours which will help water levels and cool down the water temperatures as well.

Water from the dam remains at 185 cfs and the flow at Pineville is 277 cfs (ticking up due to the rain of this afternoon)

Cool overnight temperatures helped bring the water temperature down a bit with early morning readings in the mid-60's climbing to around 68 by noon. Only a few anglers fished the run today with only one season pass holder spotting two fish (one of which he was able to bring to hand.) The fish looked a little brighter than the fish that was posted about a week ago, and that's an encouraging sign.

28 guests were on the run today - these guests trickled in starting at opening time, until the late afternoon, with a fair percentage leaving after fishing the morning, and coming back for the evening bite - attached are pictures of the foggy fields and blazing dawn that greeted our earlier guests - CFS at the dam 185, with the CFS at the Pineville gauge dropping from 299 to 286 over the day - water temperatures started at 69 degrees early this morning, and rose to 75 degrees later in the day - our day started out in the mid 60s, and only climbed to the mid 70s - we alternated with some cloud cover to brilliant blue skies, plenty of sunshine, and light breezes - Smallmouth Bass are still providing action, as incidental catches, as are some large Fallfish - although our guests fished from top to bottom of the run, there were only occasional sightings of moving salmon, and those were sporadic and not numerous - there were no hookups . . . we will have an overnight low of a chilly 58 degrees, with tomorrow's forecast as follows: Generally sunny. High near 85F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.

we had eight guests on the run today - most of them sighted salmon, and one briefly hooked up with a salmon - so, they're here, just not in large numbers yet - CFS at the dam is 210, CFS at the Pineville gauge is 304 - our day started off in the high 60s, and ramped up to the high 70s - water temperatures ranged from 68 to 71 degrees - an overcast start to the day cleared up to blue skies and plenty of sunshine - breezes were light and did little to dispel the humidity - our overnight low will be 64 degrees, with the forecast for tomorrow as: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Storms may contain strong gusty winds. High 77F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

Evening Report

This evenings report is a continuation of this afternoons report. Some of the anglers that fished and saw salmon this morning came back this afternoon and evening and all six anglers reported seeing "some" additional salmon. Not a lot but some. No additional fish were brought to hand although one was hooked and broke off. The next few days will tell us if the fish that appeared on the run today are the beginning of more to come or are merely fish that were hanging around and made a move when we received that rain and the bump in the water level. We'll see what tomorrow brings, but things are beginning to get interesting. More rain is in the forecast and that's a good thing.

Water flow from the dam remains at 185 cfs and the flow at Pineville is currently 290 cfs (up about 50 cfs for the day)

This is the first afternoon fishing report that we've had in a while, but todays news justifies it. The rain that we had this morning, combined with some cooler temperatures encouraged some Salmon to push into the DSR. Reports of the few anglers on the water suggest not a lot of fish but "some". One angler reported seeing at least a half dozen this morning (before he left) and while two others "saw nothing" this morning, reported seeing three this afternoon, one of which is pictured on our Facebook page. Someone had to be first and this happy father and son were the first on the Douglaston Salmon Run. This evening I will give an update on any additional fish or sightings.

A half dozen anglers took advantage of a truly beautiful day and joined us on the run today. "Small fry" is all that was reported. An early morning angler fished until mid-morning and did see any evidence of what he was looking for and that was the same report of a couple season pass holders that fished the early evening hours. One did report that while looking downriver for any tell tale sign, he noticed significant splashing in the shallows downstream form his location. He got very excited and then disappointed (sort of) to realize that what he was witnessing were three deer splashing across the river!!!

Typical of this time of the year, there have been isolated salmon caught upriver already - today, two guests fished the run - one fished the center section during the morning into very early afternoon, but did not either see or hook into any fish - the other guest saw a solitary salmon splashing upriver this morning, took a break during the afternoon, and came back in the early evening to try again, without any luck - CFS at the dam 185, CFS at the Pineville gauge 240 - alternating periods of overcast and (mostly) clear skies meant bright sunshine most of the day - temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s most of the day, with cooling breezes - overnight low will be 50 degrees - tomorrow will be sunny, high 76 degrees, winds 5 to 10 mph - the good news in the next week is that daytime temperatures will be in the mid 70s, overnight lows will be low 60s, and there is a 39% - 41% chance of rain Monday through Thursday - other than biological imperatives, cooling temperatures, overcast and rain, are two of the three general triggers for salmon to enter the river - now we need increased water flow as the last trigger . . .

we have made the nine month seasons passes, for those passholders who had acceptable pictures uploaded to their accounts - you may pick those up on your first visit - if you are a season pass holder (nine or 6.5 months) please check your accounts to ensure that you have a passport quality picture uploaded (head and shoulders only, full on, face illuminated, no hat, no sunglasses, plain background) as this is the picture we will use to print your pass - please, no "action photos" as we generally cannot use those

The Estuary Lodge will very soon be opening up for booking 12 through 15 September - please call us should you be interested in booking this lodge

if you are having difficulty obtaining online daily access fishing passes, for the day(s) you wish to fish, here are some potential workarounds:

please note that we begin sales of online daily access fishing passes, for the forthcoming season, in mid-January of each year - please plan accordingly;

continue to monitor our website for the day(s) desired as, on occasion, individuals surrender their pass(es) and we post them back to the website;

renting an available DSR lodge allows you to purchase daily access fishing passes, up to the number of lodge guests, from the day of check-in through the day of check-out;

obtaining the services of a DSR guide will enable you to purchase daily access fishing pass(es) up to the maximum number of the guided party, for the day(s) the party is being guided;

you may want to research the benefits of a season pass, the greatest of which is guaranteed access every day that the pass is active, as well as four coupons each season that guarantee access for up to four guests, who may purchase daily access fishing passes for a reduced amount;

we will have limited opportunities for walk-up full, and afternoon only, daily access fishing passes - on the day(s) you wish to fish, be here at our posted opening time and obtain a numbered ticket (similar to the one you would obtain at the barber shop or any other location where there is an abundance of first-come, first-served, customers) at the kiosk located in front of our Ticket Office - after we have processed all categories of guests, we will determine if there are any tickets remaining (no-shows) and issue any available.
