Yesterday's Report

September 15, 2024

9/15/2024

5:00pm River Patrol Fishing Report:  350 cfs at the dam; 494 cfs at Pineville; Water Temperature 68 degrees.  The afternoon report for the run, top to bottom was lower in almost all categories from the am report.  Our client volume was light throughout, coupled with fish brought to hand.  The continuing sunny dry weather may be nice to fish in but seems to be doing little in terms of persuading fish to begin their journey up the river.  Kings with few cohos were caught with the addition of a lone Steelhead, Atlantic and Brown.  Tomorrow’s weather does offer up partly to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures making it to the low 80s, light winds, and a slight chance of precipitation.  The flow from the dam is scheduled to remain at 350 cfs through 11:59 this evening.

Yesterday's Report

September 15, 2024

Water temperature this morning is 65F. Today sunny skies with a high of 83F. The winds are WSW at 5 to 10 mph. There's been some action from the upper end of the run thru to the middle of the run, with most fish moving up river. Kings the predominant species with Coho's being sighted. The middle down to the lower end of the run has fish moving up river with Kings most sighted, Brown Trout was also noted by River Patrol. The fish in the estuary some are moving up and others are holding in place. The flow out of the dam remains at 350CFS and out of Pineville 500CFS.

5:00pm River Patrol Fishing Report:  Flow from Dam 350 cfs; Pineville 500 cfs; water temperature 66 degrees.  The continuation of Sunny skies, light winds, and consistent temperatures in the low 70s made fishing difficult through the majority of the run this afternoon.  Client volume was low in the upper and lower stretches with most anglers fishing the middle portions.  Although slower than this morning several Kings and a few Cohos were brought to hand.  The weather for 9/15/24 should be very similar to today with sunny skies and light winds.  The Dam is scheduled to maintain a flow of 350 cfs thru 11:59 tomorrow evening.

The water temperature was 63F this morning. Mild temperatures in the mid 60's and sunny skies have brought the anglers out today. The middle of the run has had a good bit of success with the lower end of the run doing fairly well. The upper end not quite as good as other parts of the run. Kings and Coho's sighted, hooked and landed up and down the run. The fish are predominantly moving up river except in the lower section where they are mainly holding in place. There's been sightings of Steelhead in the upper end of the run. The flow out of the Dam remains at 350CFS and out of Pineville 506CFS.

5:00pm River Patrol Fishing Report:  350 cfs at the dam; 506 cfs at Pineville; water temperature 64 degrees.  The continuation of bright, cloudless skies made the afternoon fishing slower than hoped from the top to the bottom of the beat.  Although both Kings and Cohos were caught by our clients the general consensus was the number of fish taken to hand dropped from this morning, (although as this report is being written, the last two hours of daylight generally produce an uptick as fish move out of the deeper pools.)  Tomorrow’s forecast is scheduled to be more of the same with light, variable winds, and temperatures ranging from low 60s at first light to mid-70s by the end of the day.  The dam is listed as maintaining a flow of 350 cfs thru 11:59 9/14/2024.

Another day on the warm side with clear sunny skies. That's not helping the fishing any as we noticed less fish movement and less angler success. As is typical, there was some fish that moved into the run early this morning and limited fish movement over the course of the day, but as the sun and temperature rose, the fish hunkered down in the faster water and deeper pools. Although we didn't have reading on the water temperature this afternoon, this morning at the lower end the temperature was 61 and rose to 64 around noon. I'm sure that by the late afternoon, the temperature of the water rose up a couple more degrees. Still, many anglers were successful in bringing fish to hand which consisted primarily of Kings with the presence of Coho continuing to diminish in the run. A beautiful brown trout was brought to hand this morning in the lower end of the run. Tomorrow's forecast is calling for another day in the low 80's with clear skies and plenty of sunshine. The flow from the dam remains at 350cfs and at Pineville 403cfs.

The temperatures got hotter, but the fishing slowed some from yesterday. There were still good numbers of fish (about a fifty-fifty mix of Coho's nd King's) but not the predominance of Coho that we witnessed yesterday. Yesterday the ratio was closer to 80-20 in favor of Coho. Many were of the smaller size, but extremely enjoyable to have at the end of the line. Still the vast majority of our anglers were able to get into fish today and a fair number were brought to hand. No reports of any browns or steelhead today. It looks like sunny and warmer weather will be with us for a while and we'll have to wait and see what kink of impact that hs on the fishery. Water from the dam remains at 350cfs through midnight tomorrow and the current reading at Pineville is 408cfs

After this mornings fog, the weather cleared and gave us a beautiful sunny day with moderate temperatures. Fishing continues to be very good with the greatest fish presence witnessed in the mid and upper sections of the run. Those areas experienced the greatest angling success, but that may do, at least in part, to the fact that more anglers were present. As has been the pattern of late, Coho's seem to have a greater concentration than Kings (particularly in the upper section of the run). Reports from the lower section of the run suggest less fish density than in the mid and upper section although we are getting word that Kings and Coho's are "milling about" in the estuary, but are disinclined to push up into the run. Still, every day ( usually in the morning) we have some fish new fish entering the system. It's been a great beginning to the Salmon season. Flow from the dam remains at 350cfs and at Pineville the flow is 425cfs.

Severe weather this afternoon necessitated (out of an abundance of caution) termination of fishing this afternoon. Thunder, lightening, and tornado warnings (Mother Nature) has a way of altering plans. Up until the storm came through reports from our river patrol indicted that there were good numbers of Kings and Salmon scattered throughout the run. Not great numbers, but definitely good numbers. And more Coho than Kings which is good news as well. The flow at the dam remains at 350cfs and the current flow (after our heavy rains) is 442cfs (and rising).

Our coolest overnight so far this season (48 F) seemed to bring a bit of life to the river today.  While conditions weren't exactly optimal in the early part of the morning, the fishing was good.  Rains dwindled, but the strong winds stuck around for the greater part of the day.  Based on reports from our River Patrol and the anglers we spoke with this afternoon the middle and upper sections of the property had the most success as well as the most angling pressure reporting mostly kings with a few Coho in the mix, while the lower sections indicated lesser success but also much less angling pressure.  At this time the dam release is currently scheduled to remain at 350 CFS until 11:59PM tomorrow (9/8). As to be expected the active fish movement throughout the run that we witnessed this morning slowed during the mid-day and the hours of overhead sun. Still good numbers of fish were sighted and brought to hand (particularly in the deeper pools of the mid-section). Slower fish presence experienced in the upper and lower sections with light angling pressure with fish moving downstream in the lower parts of our run. Coho's were sighted (briefly) as they shot through pretty fact as is their habit. Still and all, another good day to be on run. Tomorrow's forecast calls for plenty of sunshine with temperatures nearing 80 degrees with some rain forecast for this weekend. Water from the dam remains at 350cfs through midnight tomorrow and the flow at Pineville is 382cfs (down slightly from yesterdays reading at this time of 387cfs.

I realize it's getting repetitive, but today was another absolutely beautiful day on the run with clear blue skies, pleasant temperatures, and minimal wind. In addition, good fish movement is getting repetitive as well. Most of the movement was concentrated on the mid-section where there was the greatest density of anglers and action. Strangely, this afternoon the upper-section saw relatively light fish movement (perhaps due to the bright overhead sun) and light angler pressure. Fish were brought to hand but not nearly to the degree that was witnessed in the mid-section. Kings ruled the day with a smattering of Coho in the mix. Everyday the fish presence improves. Not by leaps and bounds, but incrementally moving to better and better numbers. Now we just need to keep our fingers crossed that we avoid that period where the fish seem to disappear for a time. We'll see what tomorrow brings. The forecast for tomorrow is for another sunny and slightly warmer day with temperatures approaching 80 degrees. The flow from the dam remains at 350cfs and the flow at Pineville is 387cfs.

Another beautiful day on the run. Sunny skies, light winds and warmer temperatures. Fishing was pretty darn good as well. Everyone with whom I spoke saw good fish movement throughout the day. Not crazy numbers but groups of two and three's on a regular basis. Sometimes more. I recall one angler who when asked "How was it today?" smirked, smiled and didn't answer until I repeated my question. At that point he smiled and said "I don't know how it was for anyone else but I had a very good day. Yeah. It was a really good day". Other anglers that I spoke with were clearly very happy with their day. Lots of hookups and good numbers of fish were brought to hand. Tomorrow is looking like it should be another excellent day to be on the run. Sunshine and temperatures into the seventies. We've received a number of reports from down stream that the estuary is getting loaded up with fish. Now we just need them to poke their nose up into the run in the morning. Water temperature went from 61 early up to 64 around noon. Flow from the dam remains at 350cfs and the Pineville gauge is reading 387cfs.

One couldn't ask for a much better day on the run. A mix of sun and clouds, cooler fall-like temperatures, and a steady movement of fish ( almost exclusively Kings) throughout the day. There were some slower periods, of course ,and the early morning hours, as to be expected, saw the most visible movement, but fish were on the moved through the afternoon and evening hours as well. As the sun got higher in the sky fish could be found in the faster water and in places that offered shade. After the early morning push of fish, the mid and upper sections seemed to have the heaviest action although anglers that fished from the mid section down found plenty of fish to keep themselves entertained. Tomorrow's forecast calls for a high of 70 with clear skies (after an overnight low near 50) and light winds. Tomorrow is shaping up to be another excellent day to be on the run. Flow from the dam remains at 350cfs and the flow at Pineville is 406cfs. Water temperature this afternoon was 66, but will definitely be cooling down through the nighttime hours.
