1200 CFS Dam Release

snow

Snow

January 18, 2026

Sunday, 18 January 2026, full-day DSR fishing report follows.
Today's forecast: "Overcast. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 26F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.".
The current dam release is 750 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 9 PM today, at which time it will bump up to 1200 and remain there until 12:59 PM 01/19/26. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 1060 at our opening time, and only dropped slightly to 1040 over the course of the day. The water temperature was not taken today.
There were a number of guests who went down to the run beginning at opening time this morning, or shortly afterwards, with a few more trickling through until the very early afternoon. Today, it seemed that the majority of our guests concentrated on fishing the upper section, with only a few starting in the middle section and fishing to the lower section. The fishing reports were almost equally divided into two distinct groups: (1) those who were experienced in fishing the river, and who "did well", and (2) those who were on a steep learning curve, with little success. Steelhead were the primary fish reported, a mix of chrome bright and colored-up, nothing out of the ordinary for this time of the year, but an 18" Brown Trout was in the mix as well. Our guests did not report any slush in the water this morning, however winds were stiff below the Spring Hole (changing from WSW to W over the course of the morning).
Successful Baits & Techniques: it was blue egg sacks, period, today; other baits and such were tried, without much success.
featured today are: Andy and Ron, who were guided by DSR Guide Mike Ford of Reel Addicted Charters & Guide Service; and Stuart, one of our highly successful Season Pass Holders.
NOTE: A reminder that our guests must be respectful of other guests' fishing techniques and locations. Some techniques perhaps require greater lengths of fishable water, and guests utilizing those techniques must be cognizant that they may have to shorten their own drifts to respect other guests fishing well downriver of them. At a minimum, our etiquette rule is that you may not fish within one rod's length of another guest, unless that other person agrees to a lesser distance. However, common sense must prevail, to fit the circumstances, and cordial communications is always the key to reaching a mutually acceptable compromise.
The forecast for tonight is: "Cloudy skies. Low around 15F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.".
The forecast for tomorrow is: "Cloudy skies. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High 26F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph.".
NOTE: due to the potential for lake effect snow, and other forms of inclement weather conditions during the winter season, please monitor the weather site forecasts (use national, area-wide, and local sites) for Pulaski, NY (zip code 13142) before getting on the road; remember that lake effect snow typically occurs in relatively narrow bands, and that immediately adjacent areas may be clear of snow, therefore look at the forecast for the general area as well when planning your travel.

1200 CFS Dam Release

Snow

January 14, 2026

Wednesday, 14 January 2026, full-day DSR fishing report follows. Today's forecast: "Showers this morning, becoming a steady rain during the afternoon hours. High 46F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 90%.". The current dam release is 1200 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 11:59 PM 01/15/26. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 1570 at our opening time, and only dropped slightly to 1560 over the course of the day. The water temperature was 35 degrees Fahrenheit this morning. There was a steady trickle of guests who went down to the run beginning at opening time this morning, into the very early afternoon. Most started in the middle section and worked down to the lower section, a few went straightaway to the lower section, only one fished the upper section, and a couple fished the whole run top to bottom. The first four guests who came off the run, between 10 AM to noon, reported that they "never even got a tug" . . . one of these guests stated "(I) tried everything" . . . shortly afterwards, guests started coming off the run periodically, with improved reports that ranged from "it was very tough (fishing) today", to "it was OK today". Most in this latter group were able to at least hook-up once or twice, but had difficulty bringing fish to hand. One duo reported outstanding results today, due to a combination of angling experience on this river, total hours spent on the water today, and productive water covered; even they remarked "it was tough today". Steelhead were the only fish reported, a mix of chrome bright and colored-up, nothing out of the ordinary for this time of the year. Successful Baits & Techniques: it was necessary to mix it up today, between egg sacks, beads, and flies, and different colors, to achieve any hook-ups. Chartreuse egg sacks, as well as beads, seemed to be marginally more effective today, with blue egg sacks remaining the mainstay. Pink egg sacks, and other beads of varying colors, particularly yellowish / natural colored, all drifted under a bobber, accounted for fish as well. The forecast for tonight is: "Rain and snow this evening turning to all snow overnight. Low near 20F. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 100%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.". The forecast for tomorrow is: "Snow during the morning will taper off to light snow during the afternoon. High 24F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.". January 13, 2026

Tuesday, 13 January 2026, full-day DSR fishing report follows. Today's forecast: "Cloudy skies with a few showers this afternoon. High around 40F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30%.". The current dam release is 1200 CFS, where it is projected to remain until 11:59 PM 01/13/26. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 1610 at our opening time, and slowly dropped to 1590 over the course of the day. The water temperature was not available this morning. There was a steady trickle of guests who went down to the run beginning at opening time this morning, into the early afternoon. Most started in the middle section and worked down to the lower section, a lesser percentage went straightaway to the lower section, and only a few fished the upper section. The first one off the run, around 9 AM, gave me a thumbs-down on the way out, which set a somewhat ominous tone for what the day would bring . . . however, nobody else came off the run until mid-afternoon, and there were definitely more coming in than leaving - something was "up" . . . apparently the grapevine was thrumming about the fish being very cooperative today as, with two exceptions, each guest subsequently each reported between three to five fish brought to hand, with half again more hookups, mostly Steelhead, with an 18" Brown Trout in the mix. The high stick today was, incredibly, 17 / 30 Steelhead; he fished dawn to dark! The Steelhead were a mix of chrome bright and colored-up. Not a bad day, at all. Successful Baits & Techniques: beads of varying colors, particularly yellowish / natural colored, drifted under a bobber, accounted for half of the fish brought to hand today; egg sacks (when used today), specifically blue ones, some pink, also drifted under a bobber, accounted for the remaining half of the fish today. One guest was swinging a blue bead, and a blue "scup" fly, and did on par with other guests. At a minimum, our etiquette rule is that your may not fish within one rod's length of another guest, unless that other person agrees to a lesser distance. However, common sense must prevail, to fit the circumstances, and cordial communications is always the key to reaching a mutually acceptable compromise. The forecast for tonight is: "Rain and snow this evening then remaining overcast overnight. Low 38F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precip 80%.". The forecast for tomorrow is: "Rain showers in the morning becoming more intermittent in the afternoon. High 41F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.". DSR Fishing Report for 11 January 2026   The current dam release is 1200 CFS on until 01/11/26 11:59 PM.  The Pineville gauge is currently 1720 CFS as of 4:30pm. The water temperature was not available this morning. REPORT:   A handful of guests joined us on the run today. A few guests said they landed a couple Steelhead and another group of two anglers stated they did not hook a fish. The river seemed to be on a slight rise the entire day, it started at 1700 CFS in the early AM and ended the day at 1720 CFS. The cold runoff from all the snow melt has seemed to slow the bite down a bit.   WEATHER: The forecast for tonight: Some lingering evening flurries or snow showers. Cloudy skies. Windy this evening. Low 24F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph. The forecast for tomorrow: Variably cloudy with snow showers. High 33F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 50%. About one inch of snow is expected. January 5, 2026

Monday, 5 January 2026, full-day DSR fishing report follows. NOTE: our operating hours will return to normal (6:30 AM through 5:15 PM) effective tomorrow, 6 January 2026. Today's forecast: "Snow this morning will give way to lingering snow showers this afternoon. High 29F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.". The current dam release is 1000 CFS, where it is projected to remain until tonight at 6 PM. At 6 PM tonight the flow will rise to 1200 CFS, where it will remain until 11:59 PM 01/06/26. The CFS at the Pineville gauge was at 1300 at our opening time, and remained there over the course of the day. The water temperature was not available this morning. There wasn't any slush in the water this morning. It should be noted that the increase in CFS will likely flush out any slush quicker each day. Guests went down to the run at opening time this morning, or soon thereafter. You should have been here . . . The first one off the run, who fished in the middle section only, reported an incredible 17 Steelhead brought to hand, of 19 hooked. There was a range of sizes, up to 34" (see picture). The last two guests off the run, at dusk, reported 6 / 11 Steelhead between them (see pictures), and a 17" Brown Trout. The Steelhead were a mix of chrome bright and colored-up. Successful Baits & Techniques: blue egg sacks drifted under a bobber accounted for 99% of the fish today. Featured is Niko, a member of our Guest Services team at the DSR (sunglasses); Mitch, one of our River Patrol (orange hood); and their mutual buddy, Dan (yellow trimmed black hood); each with a magnificent Steelhead. May be an image of fishing rod No photo description available. The forecast for tonight is: "Mainly cloudy with snow showers around this evening. Low 24F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 40%.". The forecast for tomorrow is: "Cloudy skies with periods of rain later in the day. Some mixed winter precipitation possible. High near 35F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 100%.".
