As we are approaching the start of the salmon season, our guests are reviewing, and adjusting, their fishing plans. If our guests have not already purchased their Daily Access Fishing Passes (DAPs) online, and in advance, for the peak season, or may be attempting to change their fishing dates to an higher-demand period, many are experiencing an inability to obtain any, or all desired, DAPs for their trip. There are a few options which may assist you in obtaining passes for your trip, now as well as in the future:
• Consider Alternate Date(s). If your schedule is relatively flexible, consider either earlier or later date(s) during the peak season, as the last week of September and the first week of October are the highest demand weeks and typically sell-out rapidly. Salmon, Steelhead, and Brown Trout are plentiful in our river system from mid-September through mid-November;
• Monitor the Website. At this time passes may not be available online, but commonly we will have cancellations or pass date changes for various reasons. Cancellations are automatically placed back into our inventory on our website, and changes of pass dates also have the same effect of "freeing" up passes on a particular date. We encourage guests seeking passes, for currently sold-out dates, to monitor the pass availability as much as possible in the interim period. DSR does not maintain any waiting lists for daily passes;
• Hire a DSR Approved Guide. – DSR approved guides are guaranteed access for each of their clients only for the day(s) and times they are actively guiding the clients. Be aware that if you have a "morning-only" guided trip, and did not make prior arrangements for the afternoon, if we have reached our angler limit then you may not be able to continue fishing the run; a simple solution is to pre-purchase full-day daily fishing access passes, while they are available online, even though you may only be guided during the morning. DSR’s guides are independent contractors and require guests to initiate inquiries about their services and availability on their own. A list of approved DSR Guides may be found by visiting our website; on the home page, at the upper left-hand corner select "Menu", then "Fishing", then "DSR Guides";
• Consider Renting a Lodge. If available, our rates are very competitive with those in the local area. As lodge guests you are guaranteed to be able to purchase daily access fishing passes, from your date of check-in through your date of check-out, up to the total number of guests in the lodge. You may also access the water earlier than most other categories of fishing access passes and the general public;
• Purchase a Walk-up Pass. – DSR has collected data over the years past, which allows us to calculate averages and estimate guest attendance on any day. Should those estimates be off, and space is available, DSR will release remaining passes for sale via the procedures published at
www.douglastonsalmonrun.com/walkup beginning at 7:00 AM. Please note that pass availability varies for any given day and is not guaranteed.
• Purchase an Afternoon Pass. – As anglers come off the water for the day, we check-out each angler. This in turn creates openings for additional guests to get on the water. It is highly critical that each guest try to inform us that they are coming off the water for the day, so that we may allow another guest the opportunity to fish; "pay it forward" so that, in the future, it may be you who benefits. At 12:45 PM each day, available Afternoon Passes will be published for sale. Guests who have purchased afternoon passes may redeem them at our Welcome Center, beginning at 1:00 PM.
You may also wish to consider the purchase of a season pass, which will guarantee you unlimited daily fishing access during the period this pass is in effect, as well as other benefits such as earlier access and coupons for your own guests to fish. In order to be eligible for an invitation to purchase a season pass, it is necessary to first place a $100 deposit for our season pass waitlist. The $100 deposit may subsequently be used to defray the cost of the season pass; be applied to the costs of DAPs, lodging, services; or refunded or credited should you no longer desire to pursue a season pass. Please visit our website and at the upper left-hand corner select "Menu", "Fishing" from the drop-down menu, then "Season Passes" within the selection offered.
