1940 CFS Pineville Gauge
1700 CFS Dam Release

February 23, 2025

CFS at the dam 300 (until at least midnight tomorrow), CFS at the Pineville gauge hovered just above 400. Morning air temperature started at 29 degrees Fahrenheit, and over the course of the entire day only climbed to 32 degrees as our probable "high". It was overcast all day, with occasional light winds interspersed with periods of calm. We started the morning with light snowfall, which developed into what looked like frozen mist, all of which continued to fall until around 1 PM when it stopped, having resulted in only a few more inches of accumulation. We had a couple more than a "baker's dozen" of guests joining us on the run today, arriving at dawn until as late as 1:15 PM. Three guests came off the run around 11:15 AM, reporting no real slush in the water, although breakaway chunks of ice were floating down the river, and ice shelves are getting slushy and spongy; be careful going out on them, and watching for large chunks if you are in the water. Each of these guests hooked into fish, with two bringing ones and twos to hand. The next pair of guests didn't come off the run until almost 3 PM, and reported no success mostly swinging streamers with Spey rods. Around 3:45 PM five more guests came off the run in quick succession, with all but one hooking into fish, with between one and three fish reported. As of this report, there are still an handful of guests on the run, but I'm sure they will have similar, perhaps slightly better reports due to time spent on the water. Steelhead predominated today, with egg sacks and beads, under bobbers, producing for most of our guests. A good tip was to change-up the colors until one starts working. The upper section produced slightly better than the middle section. Overnight low will be 24 degrees, with the forecast for tomorrow being: "Overcast. High around 45F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph."
