March 19, 2024

CFS at the dam 500 - the current forecast is to midnight tomorrow - CFS at the Pineville gauge 660 - water temperature 39 degrees, air temperatures started at 30 degrees, then fell and rose between 27 to 33 degrees all day - overcast skies, with periods of light, fine grained, snow alternating with near whiteout heavy snow conditions - winds were generally light and variable. A couple of guests fished the morning only, hooking into two Steelhead each, both bright chrome and obvious fallbacks, some hefty. A few fished the afternoon only, with similar results, and the high hook today achieving 2 / 5 Steelhead, drifting both beads and egg sacks (eggs better for hard strikes and takes), after fishing top to bottom of the run. Tonight's forecast: "Snow this evening will give way to lingering snow showers late. Low 32F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches." Tomorrow's forecast: "Snow. Winds will increase during the afternoon. Temps nearly steady in the mid 30s. Winds W at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snow accumulations less than one inch. Higher wind gusts possible.". NOTE: we are nearing the water temperature (50 degrees) when the Smallmouth Bass start coming into the DSR part of the river, in sufficient numbers to keep your family members entertained - make your fishing plans now, and don't forget to check out our highly competitive lodging rates!
